The seasons are slowly changing and long summer days will soon turn into dark, brisk fall evenings. Now the question is, what do we wear for fall 2024? To help narrow down the pieces missing from your wardrobe, here are the latest fashion trends for the upcoming fall season.
Trends
Over the summer we have seen many trends rise and fall, but patterns have taken over this past year. Patterns like leopard and cheetah print, camouflage and stripes, and statement prints have taken over Pinterest boards nationwide. As fall approaches, these designs have made it clear they are here to stay, but with muted jewel tones instead of bright summer colors.
Ella Martinez, a student at Marina High School stated, “personally, I love our generation’s fashion. I love the use of fun colors and patterns and the constant trends that circulate over the years.”
Women’s Fashion
In women’s fashion, maximalism in accessories has been seen often in 2024 fashion. Maximalism means to maximize the capacity of something, and in fashion, jewelry has most definitely been maximized. Multiple necklaces, chunky earrings, and various statement rings paired with wrist bangles have been very popular. Most of these pieces of jewelry all consist of either silver or gold, but mixing metals is trending as well.
Specific role models also have been responsible for the trends that rule the autumn season, from social media influencers to fictional characters. Demetra Dias, a recent Tik Tok and Instagram star, has single-handedly brought a specific style to teen’s wardrobes. She has spiked popularity in low-rise baggy jeans paired with shoes like Uggs and the Adidas Campuses. After blowing up in September of last year, many people have taken creative inspiration from her outfits.
Even fictional characters have influenced the lifestyle of teenagers. The main character on the hit series Gilmore Girls, Rory Gilmore, has paved the way for fall fashion for several years. The show first aired in 2000 has still has a substantial impact on the world of fashion. Rory Gilmore is commonly seen wearing large knit sweaters, turtlenecks, cardigan sweaters, and dainty, feminine blouses. Her early 2000s chic and studious school-girl aesthetic have come together to form a comfortable but cohesive style that has been adopted by many teen girls.
Iman Daniels, a sophomore at Huntington Beach High School (HBHS) said, “The colder weather is my favorite type of weather, so I’m excited to start dressing for it. I’ve noticed that crewnecks and hoodies have been especially popular.”
Men’s Fashion
Men’s fashion has also seen fashion trends rise and fall. Just like women’s clothing trends, baggier 90’s style silhouettes have been in style more than ever. Neutrals are another gender neutral trend that are everywhere for fall. Basic t-shirts, vintage quarter zips, over-sized hoodies, and baggy blue denim are some specific things that make up fall 2024 men’s fashion. Shoes like the Adidas Samba and Gazelle, Birkenstock Boston Clogs, and Nike Air Force 1’s are also trending. For the most part, simple dark toned baggy outfits have been trending and stayed trending for men’s fashion.
“I am not super into fashion, but I have noticed the style trends over the months. I think it’s cool,” said Abram Morgan, a sophomore at HBHS.
Overall, the best way to dress for any season is to dress how you want. Fashion is all about creativity and expression, and if everybody were to follow the same exact trends, that idea would be lost. If any of these fashion statements seem to catch your eye, by all means follow along. On the other hand, if none of these necessarily speak to you, wear what feels best.
