The bar has been raised for 2025. This year, costumes were through the roof! Now that Halloween has come to an end, Halloween fanatics, rise up because your year has just begun. If you’re already planning ahead for next year, and you’ve got no clue where to begin, you’re in luck. From classic movies to cute cartoons, here are some ideas that’ll make you, your friends or your significant other seem a bit too good at cosplaying.
Group Costumes
Friend groups, now’s your chance to shine! Below are some group costume ideas that are sure to catch attention:
“A Goofy Movie:” Max Goof, PJ Pete and Bobby Zimmeruski
Is it just me or is it getting a little smokey? This costume features the fun and rowdy ‘2000s-coded’ Disney trio. The three, despite the movie being released in 1995, are commonly associated with the fashion, swag and style of the 2000s. Embody Max Goof in a short-sleeved red hoodie, be PJ Pete rocking red Converse or Bobby with a relaxed demeanor and a nice can of Ez-Cheez. If you’re planning on being the Max of the group, ensure you bring out your inner most typical teenage attitude. You may reflect PJ Pete as a person and the weary, careful and kept character is more you than, per say, a careless Zimmeruski.
So, if you consider yourselves a 2000s type of trio, no more Goof of the Week with this, because you all are sure to “Stand Out.”
“Big Hero 6:” Hiro, Honey, Gogo, Baymax, Fred and Wasabi
On a scale of one to ten, how would you rate this costume? Ten is the only correct answer. Introducing the six heroes of “San Fransokyo,” this costume has ‘star of the show’ written all over it. Be the bot-fighting Hiro with Kore Cl0thing’s faded black zip-up, or be the cool bubble-gum chewer, Gogo, with a popped leather jacket. Whether you decide on a sign-spinning, often foreshadowing, Fred or a sweet and optimistic Honey, this costume for any six-member group can truly bring out the personality of you and your fellow five. Of course, you can’t forget Wasabi! With his high-tech inventions and laser-sharp blades, the six are drawn to a full, complete circle.
Surrounding yourselves with a dash of science, adventure and a blast, I presume anyone and everyone can be a nerd on Halloween. Take control of this Hallow’s Day, using your MicroBots or simply just the coolness of your costume, and even Callaghan would admit defeat in an instant.
“Despicable Me:” Margot, Edith and Agnes
“It’s so cute, I’m gonna die!” The three known and beloved sisters of Illumination: Margot, Edith and Agnes are classic Halloween costumes. Throw on a red plaid skirt from CKW Uniforms and you’re Margot in an instant. Is the laid back Edith more your vibe? A pink striped hoodie or sweater is the way to go! If you’d prefer to be the energetic youngest sister, Agnes, a cute black and yellow striped shirt is the pattern of choice for the day. You could assign the roles by age or personality, but either way, these three make for a closely-knit trio. Margot, the eldest and responsible sister, Edith the bored and nonchalant sibling, and Agnes, the hyper sugar-rushed little girl. A costume that displays the strength of the sisterly bond, perfect for three who are inseparable, or even three who are actually siblings.
“Alvin and the Chipmunks:” Alvin, Simon, Theodore
What’s better than chipmunks? Singing chipmunks! In contrast to sisterly bonds, how about the tough and indestructible brotherly bond? Be the smart one with a pair of round glasses, the awesome-est one with a red hoodie, or Theodore with Utz Cheese Balls at hand! You’d be singing merry, happy tunes all throughout the day, grooving to the rhythm of your own voices. If this seems down your alley, “Alvin and the Chipmunks” are the way to go. How can you elevate your costume even more? Got anyone willing to be the Chipettes? Even better! Spice it up, and get ready to whip your tails.
“Phineas and Ferb:” Phineas and Friends
Hey Ferb, I know what we’re gonna do today. . . take Halloween by storm! This nostalgic 2007 group makes for an epic and iconic Halloween costume. To start, an orange and white striped shirt is perfect for Phineas along with purple overalls for Ferb! There are many variations of these items for cheap prices on Amazon, or perhaps you’d be lucky enough to score one through a good old-fashioned thrift. Pull off this look with your fellow “Phineas and Ferb” lovers, and even Isabella wouldn’t have to ask: “Whatcha doin?” She’d already know!
Like many other movies and shows, there are various other characters to add. Candace, Jeremy, Stacy, The Fireside Girls, Perry the Platypus and Dr. Doofenshmirtz. These characters, paired alongside the five add a touch of cuteness beyond compare. Try it out with friends or family and it’ll be as if you were the prodigies who built the rollercoaster!
Duo Costumes
Duos are surely something special, and Halloween is a day to freely match with your other half. In that spirit, here are some duo costumes for you and your best friend!
“Back to the Future:” Dr. Emmett Brown and Marty McFly
Great Scott! This costume, featuring the classic 1985 trilogy, “Back to the Future” has your name written all over it. To pull off Doc, you’ll need a science coverall, which can be found on Amazon! In order to fully accomplish Marty, instead of a coverall, you’ll need a red puffer vest which can be found on the Gap storefront on Amazon. Now, the debate between you two will be the ‘who is who’ settlement. Marty McFly, an on-trend and stylish character, desperately trying to live his life or a crazy, but never fibbing and always proven truthful, Emmett “Doc” Brown.
Although seemingly a mad scientist, he is often misunderstood and it seems Marty has found himself in the midst of it all. When you settle the roles, do not wait, the clock is about to strike! Get on those 80’s clothes and grab some plutonium, because soon enough, you two will look so good that you went “Back to the Future.”
“Nintendo:” Mario and Luigi
The iconic Nintendo Italian brothers, Mario and Luigi, guarantee a classic Halloween costume every single year. The pair shows an irrefutable bond and, ultimately, are always a great costume idea to pull off easily. Dark blue overalls paired with green and red sweaters that can likely be found at local stores such as Target or Ross, will help you pull off this notorious duo. If you’d like to take your costume to the next step, carry around a D.I.Y. coin made from cardboard or a banana peel whenever you go.
On top of that, you can even have the whole cast of characters! Princess Peach, Daisy, Bowser and Toad, you name it! A classic staple in the history of video games, the “Super Mario” franchise tops any Halloween with a cherry on top. Never getting old, this costume is easy to achieve and proves to be a timeless iconic costume for every and many Halloweens to come.
“The Princess Diaries:” Mia and Lilly
This? Iconic? Shut up! Mia and Lilly, a striking duo from the all famous movie classics, “The Princess Diaries.” Using uniformity to its fullest extent, this plaid blue skirt from Michael’s Uniform is perfect for these two costumes. The two best friends, watching each other through nobodies to royalty, make for iconic figures in the history of Genovia. As the story follows, Mia is a shadow among the light until she is recognized as a princess, an heir. Her character can be portrayed as both the timid nerdy version of her, or the confident princess she turns out to be. Her best friend, on the other hand, can be pulled off as an opinionated and know-it-all girl among her peers.
Opinionated and blunt about most controversial topics, Mia and Lilly are a force not to mess with. In retrospect, these two are perfect costumes for any duo who are relevantly different in a variety of ways, and yet, embrace the contrast.
“Gilmore Girls:” Lorelai and Rory Gilmore
The classic mother-daughter duo, Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, from the 2000s romantic dramedy, “Gilmore Girls.” To perfectly complete the Chilton uniform, this blue plaid skirt found off of Uniformity Lafayette would portray Rory’s Chilton era fully. While the leather trench coat in the image falls on the more expensive side, dupes and/or variations can be found on various sites such as Amazon, or even Walmart.
The fall-coded characters, Rory and Lorelai, are often babbling about random references to films and literature. If humor is a strong suit for you, and your fellow duo of choice, then this costume works out perfectly. Bring out your inner-most coffee-enthusiast and embody complicated characters through a simple costume.
Couple Costumes
Matching couple costumes is the cutest way to spend a Halloween! Some ideas for them are listed below!
“To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before:” Cho Chang and Spiderman
This “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” reference is swoon-worthy and iconic to the max. Whether you’re Peter Kavinsky hanging from the ceiling with this epic Spiderman suit or Lara Jean, the Hogwarts alumni, this costume in itself certainly is a witty novel reference. If you’re a book lover with a significant other, you’ve got to try this!
The book details a scene where Lara Jean dresses as Cho Chang for Halloween and Peter dresses as Spiderman. A reference within a reference. Genius! This idea, to Peter’s favor, will direct the spotlight and attention in no time.
If you have ever read the series, the significance of this scene fastens the reader for a whirlwind of events to come, and using it as a Halloween costume is the work of a magician, or witch.
“The Little Rascals:” Alfalfa and Darla
You are so beautiful to me! Can’t you see? This idea is everything I hope for and everything I dream, the close ties of childhood crushes and the innocence of puppy love. This sailor top from the website, Kawaiies, is perfect for Darla, and the suspenders from Indochino are the epitome accessory for Alfalfa.
Alfalfa and Darla are two characters from “The Little Rascals” and draw attention like no other. Perhaps it’s the club Alfalfa is in, or just the fact that this is incredibly iconic. Regardless, these two have a bond like no other, considering Alfalfa completely going against the laws of his very own friend group.
If this costume resembles you and your partner, whether the connection is puppy love or an agreement on the level of sweetness this costume brings, try it out for next Halloween!
“She’s All That:” Laney Boggs and Zack Siler
Cue “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None the Richer and you’ve completely smashed this costume! The ultimate opposites attract couple, from the 1999 hit movie, is sure to be the spotlight of Halloween. Embody Laney Boggs’ artistic side with the cutest yellow long sleeve from Epik Workwear, and embrace the charm of Zack with this Stuart and Strauss letterman jacket.
Of course, another big part in the movie is the red dress and Boggs’ dramatically slow walking. Even that, too, makes a cute partner costume!
Well, Laney Boggs, oh Laney Boggs, get your cute butt down here!
Have at it then! Slip on these costumes, and you’ve got that candy in the bag! With that, have a happy–and iconic–Halloween!
