This 2024 Election Season has come to a conclusion with the victory of the former 55th President Donald Trump shaking the nation.
Though this election night concluded fairly swiftly with many polls deeming Donald Trump the champion as early as 11pm PT, many American citizens kept themselves locked to the screens of polling websites, news channels, and social media as each state was called.
Like previous presidential elections, the verdict of both Pennsylvania and Wisconsin captured the American public’s eye, as throughout the early evening of election night, these states were decidedly, undecided. While fellow swing-states such as Georgia and North Carolina had been called earlier in the night for Donald Trump’s support, Pennsylvania stood as the final hold out for which candidate would dominate the electoral college.
However, as hundreds of thousands of votes rolled in and counties finalized their counts, it soon became clear that Donald Trump would take these swing-states for his victory.
In the midst of the close battle for Pennsylvania, both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris’ watch parties rallied their support for their candidates. When Harris’ planned address to the nation at Howard University was canceled around 10 pm PT, many supporters returned home to continue their support for Harris online.
Despite the uncertainty of Trump’s supporters at the Palm Beach watch party early on in the night, the mood soon turned celebratory after the final verdict of Trump’s win in Pennsylvania. Trump addressed his watch party crowd and the nation early on Wednesday, as the group anticipated a 270 win within the coming hours.
Finally, at 10 am PT on Wednesday, it was announced that Trump would also take Alaska, Wisconsin and Michigan for his victory, achieving 295 electoral points and the title of the United States’ 47th President.
Following this victory across the nation, Harris soon announced she would deliver a concession speech at 1pm PT at Howard University. Within this speech, she expressed gratitude to her campaign staff and supporters, acknowledging their extensive support along her short yet vivacious campaign.
Notably, Harris encouraged her audience to reject their despair over the lack of victory for the Harris campaign. In regards to the verdict of the election and its reaction, Harris said, “This is not a time to throw up our hands. This is a time to roll up our sleeves.”
This election dealt with a variety of American opinions, ideals, and beliefs on the current state and future of the country, and these have been carried out throughout the course of this election, and will continue to prosper post election.
