Winter is making its rounds once again, and it’s time to pull out those winter jackets that have been tucked away since spring. We are thankfully no longer in that not-cold-but-not-hot period some call autumn, and temperatures are getting low. Staying cozy and bundled while also being fashionable can be tough, but winter 2024 styles have shown it is very well possible. Get a glimpse into the wardrobes for this winter, and even some local fashion-forward outfits at Huntington Beach High School (HBHS).
Gender Neutrality
Gender neutrality is a current trend where there isn’t much distinguishing between men and women in the fashion world. Similar colors, patterns, and textures are popular amongst all genders, the only difference being women having more of a dainty adaptation with the addition of bows, lace, and mini skirts. But by all means, if you find yourself gravitating towards styles of the opposite gender, feel free. After all, restricting yourself to gender norms is not trending in winter 2024.
Winter Jackets
No matter what climate you may live in, winter jackets are a staple in the colder months. Knits and fleece jackets have been in demand, with brands like The NorthFace, Patagonia, and Carhartt taking the spotlight. The Patagonia Synchilla Snap T has been in major demand, decorated in beautiful prints for both men and women, giving a cozy winter feel while also staying comfortably warm. Although wonderfully made, Patagonia may not be in everyone’s price range. If you’re looking for a more affordable way to keep warm be sure to turn to Columbia. The Benton Springs Fleece is available in stunning colors for a fraction of the price.
Maleah Humble, a sophomore at HBHS states, “Winter is my favorite time of year, but dressing for it can be difficult. Large jackets that keep you warm are necessary for winter, but can sometimes ruin an outfit.”
HBHS Fashion
After observing outfits simply walking through the halls, it can be noticed that many people here at HBHS enjoy the same trends. Surfwear brands like Hurley, Quicksilver, and Roxy are very common for the students of HBHS all year round, which makes sense due to all the surfing occurring in Huntington Beach. As far as winter fashion is concerned, layering is an aspect of fashion found commonly around the school. We’re seeing layers of heavy barn jackets and light flannels, especially in outfits for men.
Sophomore Colette Dautrieve said, “I really enjoy fashion here at Huntington Beach High school. If you look around you’ll see plenty of people expressing themselves through their outfits, which I appreciate.”
As seen last season, and in prior years, Uggs are still a large staple of fashion, especially among students. They come in all shapes and colors that can be perfectly cohesive to any outfit, and as far as high schoolers are concerned they are the perfect shoe. They are comfortable and warm, and the perfect footwear able to keep cozy throughout the entire school day.
Athalie Chavez, a sophomore, states, “There are many trends circulating throughout the school and I think they’re cute, but I really enjoy the outfits of people who stick to styles unique to themselves as opposed to everyone else.”
Overall, winter fashion is different all around the world. This was a small look into what winter outfits look like at HBHS, a place that has very light winters. Although it can be more difficult to dress for places with harsh weather conditions, it is still very much possible to remain stylish and feel your best. Keep warm during cold months, and enjoy utilizing your winter wardrobe!
