On Feb. 6, Huntington Beach High School (HBHS) held the annual electives fair. Twenty-two tables were set up with electives ranging from Fashion Design to AP African American Studies. The elective fair allowed students to explore HBHS electives so they could discover hidden passions, gain real-world skills or even explore potential career paths.

The fair was filled with curious students, teachers leading the electives and student volunteers. Each volunteer completed at least a semester of the elective, making their insights and introductions a valuable addition.
Different electives showcased their subjects through decorations, student work and materials used in class.
Some students weren’t aware that certain electives were even an option at HBHS. Freshman Bella Menchaca said, “After coming to the electives fair, I learned about a lot of options for next year that I had no idea about.”
The fair wasn’t just to attract students to possible future classes, it was a way for students to connect with teachers and currently enrolled students. This is important because knowing the teachers and class alumni can help a smooth transition into the class in the upcoming school year.

ASL Co-President, Veda Oxford-Evans said, “Having students come and talk to us was an amazing way to connect with future ASL learners and share our passion for the language. Seeing both new and familiar faces made the experience even more meaningful, as we got to answer questions, offer insights and build a stronger sense of community.”
Overall, The Electives Fair was a success! Students gained knowledge on electives they can take this coming year, explored options for the rest of their high school career or enjoyed chit-chatting and learning about each club. All 22 electives had a successful showcase, giving students an exciting opportunity to explore new interests and connect with potential classes.
