The “Last Christmas” single by ’80s pop group Wham! came out in 1984. It’s a sparkly, bittersweet love song set during Christmas time mourning a love they once had. It has a very basic, jingly tune that was common throughout a lot of Christmas music released in the ‘80s. The song didn’t originally chart on the Billboard Hot 100 list in 1984 because of its competition, “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” by the supergroup Band Aid, originally released the same year to raise money in Ethiopia. Iconically the song is sung by Wham!’s George Michael. Fortunately, “Last Christmas” is a massive hit today, played every winter season by people all over the world.
Happy holidays to everyone and enjoy your winter break. Come back on January 1 for the Radio Star’s first 2024 issue!
