On Wednesday, Feb. 14, Huntington Beach High School (HBHS) hosted the “Valentine’s Lunch On The Lawn” to celebrate the holiday with staff members and the student body.
During lunch, attendees gathered in the amphitheater for live music from a student band in MMET called Stuck in July and spent time with friends and classmates.
HBHS junior, Ariel De Lucas, said, “Something I liked the most was probably the performance, Music Media Entertainment Technology (MMET) knows how to put on a good show and never fails to make people’s day better! Live music at lunch is not something lots of students can say they have the privilege of having so I’m super appreciative to be able to experience it.”
Everyone had a fun time hanging out with their friends and classmates, but the crowd’s favorite was HBHS, Senior, Brayden Nguyen’s band Stuck In July.
Stuck In July have been playing together for about a year. They met through APA’s MMET program and were also in a church group together. Spending that time together helped the members realize their similar musical interests. This motivated them to form a band together.
Nguyen said, “A lot of people were filming us which is always cool. I was able to see a couple of people dancing here and there, but I don’t think HB people in general like to get up and get groovy [and] sweaty before their class.”
They also had pianist, Andrew Selecky, and saxophonist, Stephen Alva, join them in their performance during lunch.
“I saw a lot of friends in the audience that were cheering along to the music and taking videos of the fun time”, said Alva.
Even Slick’s own Sydney Hart said, “I think that the Valentine’s Day Lunch on the Lawn was a spectacular way to celebrate. The event brought the school together and created a joyful environment.”
Overall, the “Valentine’s Lunch On the Lawn” was a hit. Many students enjoyed their extended lunch by listening to music and having a great time with their friends. Smiles on the faces of students could be seen throughout it all.
