In 2009 the multi-talented Ryan Gosling got together with Zach Shields to produce an atmospheric, dark folk-rock album. The debut album was self-titled after their band, Dead Man’s Bones, but unfortunately, no releases followed. The record features eleven full-length songs and an introduction simply titled “Intro.” The album features whimsical vocals from both Gosling and Shields and a children’s choir from the Silverlake Conservatory of Music. “Lose Your Soul” is a percussion-heavy song sung by Gosling backed by the roaring chant of the choir.
In 2011 ANTI-Records, their label, uploaded a documentary-style film to YouTube of the duo behind the scenes of a live event as well as some of their set. The video showcases some of the peculiar opening acts, the process of setting up for a live show, and the featured children’s choir.
