In 1984 the Talking Heads released an indie concert film titled “Stop Making Sense” that opens with an acoustic set before the band begins their hard-core jam full of electric sounds and eye-catching dances. The footage is from a three-night run of concerts in December of 1983 and it is one of the best live performances given by any band. The most impactful song of the set, “Slippery People,” featured the backup singers Lynn Mabry and Ednah Holt, and nothing is more entertaining than watching them dance just to the right of the famed and eclectic David Byrne.
The live album allows you to listen to some of their best hits in the best live renditions ever done. You can practically feel Mabry and Holt dancing in jaunty tandem as they sing “He’s alright/The Lord won’t mind.”
