Summer is filled with friends, family and if you’re lucky enough to live by the water, the beach. Here in Huntington Beach, sunny days are for tanning on the warm sand and swimming in the ocean. Of course, there are necessities for an amazing beach day, let’s hear about them from HB locals.
For locals, most just bring a towel and a speaker, then hop onto the sand. The beach doesn’t require a lot to make an amazing day.
Sophomore at Huntington Beach Highschool (HBHS), Kayden Simpson said, “A towel, a speaker, sunscreen and lotion are necessary for the beach. It doesn’t require a lot of stuff. I think the perfect beach day is going to the beach with friends, eating at BJ’s after, and walking around Main St.”
On the beach, there are countless colorful tents, umbrellas and coolers lining the shore. Those might be from tourists. The beach is meant to be relaxing, and bringing additional bulky items to keep track of might make the experience more stressful.
HBHS Freshman Brooke Parie said, “Definitely bring a shovel, buckets and a sandcastle maker to the beach. Tourists bring a lot of umbrellas. Nobody needs so many umbrellas. The five main things someone should bring to the beach are a towel, a shovel, a boogie board, food and water. That’s all you need.”
Freshman at HBHS, Sahara Whitney said, “Waking up in summer, going to the beach from 11 to 3 and having Starbucks and fruit, then watching the sunset is the perfect beach day.”
CVS is located on 5th St. in downtown HB, and it regularly comes handy for locals in case they forget sunscreen or any other beach essentials. Main St. is also filled with places to eat and enjoy the view of the ocean.
One great spot to enjoy a quick bite at is Jaybirds, at 303 Third St. Freshman at HBHS, Marley Nesto said “Jaybirds is my favorite place to eat because it is really cheap. Their blazing fries are really good and they have a lot of spices.”
There are many places to eat, shop and enjoy in Surf City USA. Tourist or local, HB is an amazing spot to spend time at in the summer.
